Acoustic music doesn’t come much more varied than the multi-cultural Sligo based ensemble NoCrows. This lively group plays a unique blend of Irish traditional, gypsy, classical and world music. Since 2008 NoCrows has been making great waves in the European folk and world music circuit with acclaimed performances at some of Europe’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury’s Acoustic Tent, Dranouter and Labadoux (Belgium), San Sebastiá (Mallorca) and Bern (Switzerland). They have also appeared on national radio and TV in Ireland and abroad.
Their unique sound is down to the combination of instruments and personnel. They all come from fairly different musical backgrounds but rather than fighting over which style is best, they have decided to include music from different genres in their programme and see what comes out of it. What has come out of it are three beautiful albums and hundreds of energetic live performances, described as “explosive”, “acoustically and visually brilliant”. Their latest CD launched in 2010, is a collaborative labour of love with more original material than their previous records and with no less than twenty musical guests from ten different countries.
