“Südwind“ in German means:”wind coming from the south“. This is the name chosen by the German trio from Kaufbeuren, Bavaria, that proposes a wide repertoire including jazz tunes, some Latin bossa nova songs and few baroque tunes from Johann Sebastian Bach too. Like the “South Wind” that is both warm and easy and rough and breezy, the three musicians alternate soft ballads with wonderful melodies to swinging and funky tunes. Improvisation is very important in their performances as well as the art of playing together and the contact with the audience. Bach goes Swing and Latin and the Alphorn brings a special alpine sound inside the Blues. Founded initially as a duo by the flute player Astrid Bauer and the double bass player Tiny Schmauch to play classic and jazz tunes, after a while the tricky and lively guitar player Peter “Pit“ Decker joined them and they became a trio. They have been playing together for nearly twelve years in streets, concert halls and clubs of Southern Germany and Austria.
