t was from the meeting between the accordion player Marion Hirsch and the bagpiper Didier Christen that the idea of creating a new band arose, 10 years ago. At first they played French traditional music as a duo but while travelling around Alsace more friends joined the group. The result is now a music band that shares the pleasure of playing and dancing together. It’s a real folk fanfare that involves the audience in a dream-like, happy atmosphere. Even the band’s name evokes images of joy and celebration, Bal’us’trad is formed with the initial letters of three French words: « Bal » stands for danser, « us » for les us et custumes, « trad » is the abbreviation of traditionel. Based in Colmar, they like playing around Europe and taking part in music events, festivals and venues. Pipes, clarinet, tuba, trumpet, percussion, oboe are the instruments used in their performances where they play Klezmer music, their own compositions, tarantella, Irish music, French songs and some slow dances, because music “c´est l´amour !“ Ready to dance?
