Originally the “Roxy’s Toolbox”, the He Hews love busking as they have travelled and played all over the world Europe offering their lively swing and ska shows to different audiences, but they are always happy to go home to England where they have become part of Norwich Folklore, entertaining the shoppers for some twenty years now.
This anniversary is celebrated with the recent release of their new cd, “The He Hews – Up City”. Band leader, vocalist and banjo strummer, Chris Dickerson, commented: “The title is a tribute to Norwich. We wanted to thank the city for supporting us over the years. We have played all over the world but Norwich is always home for us”, in fact, the people there have really taken the He Hews to their hearts. The band has the ability to literally stop shoppers in their tracks with eager fans gathering outside Jarrolds before the band arrives. They have achieved something of a local celebrity status and are regularly recognised when they venture “Up City”. Making up the He Hews, with Chris, are Ian Walker (T Chest Bass – surely the most famous bass in the city?), Tom Harris (Trombone, Keyboards and quality shoes), Trevor Rowland (Sax appeal and moral guidance ) and John Clarke (drum and a London Street bollard).
