A great passion for Klezmer music brought these musicians together and led them to create the band in 2001 in Prague. Each of them came from previous experiences with bands playing genres totally different from Klezmer music, so don’t be surprised if, under the Trombenik mask, you find the face of a rocker, a folk musician, a medieval troubadour, an alternative or pop-funky musician, or even an ethno admirer. Their colourful musical past continues to influence the direction that the whole band takes. In the past, Klezmer songs were played by Jewish musicians in eastern Europe, who brought their heritage to north America as well, mostly at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Trombenik spices these tunes up with jazz, Balkan spirit, gypsy effervescence, Latin American rhythm and rock drive, and arches their music over with ethnical essence. The distinctive sound of the band comprises five instruments: clarinet, violin, banjo, double bass and drums. Their songs are sung in immigrant-accented English and Yiddish.
